ADM PROGRAM and how it affects New Officials
With the introduction of the ADM
PROGRAM MM & Mite programs will now be more based on skill development
rather than playing games. Any games at the MM levels will be cross
ice 3 on 3 formats and Mites will be a combination of cross ice and full ice
through the season.
For the KVHA we will be incorporating
a program where we use one official per cross ice game in which 2 games -
potentially 3 games run simultaneously. One official will be used for
each game. Games rates have been established at $15 per game per
official. The association has also agreed to having a MENTOR to help
oversee new officials at a rate of $25 per game. Since rules will be
dramatically different in this format, such things as icings, off sides will
not exist. More specific rules like how to handle penalties will be
forthcoming.
PLEASE be sure to apply for MENTORING
if interested... we'll have a game plan on all this shortly.
NEW OFFICIALS AND MENTORS INFORMATION
IF YOUR AN NEW OFFICIAL WITH LITTLE OR NO GAMES EXPERIENCE PLEASE CHOOSE FROM THE MM/MITE AVAILABILITIES. NOTE THAT YOU ARE A NEW OFFICIAL WITH YOUR REQUESTS
AND WE'LL MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO HAVE A MENTOR WORK WITH YOU. IN CASES WHERE WE CANNOT HAVE A MENTOR WITH YOU THE GAME WILL BE ASSIGNED TO AN
EXPERIENCED OFFICIAL AS A PARTNER.
MENTORS:
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN MENTORING GAMES GENERALLY ARE ON THE WEEKENDS - PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR AVAILABILITY IF YOU ARE INTERESTED - ALL EXPERIENCED OFFICIALS WE WILL ASK YOU TO WORK A FEW GAMES DURING THE SEASON
AND WILL SCHEDULE YOU INTO THESE GAMES. YOU WILL RECEIVE AN EQUAL GAME FEE FOR MENTORING THAT IS PAID BY CHECK WHEN WE COLLECT FROM THE ASSOCIATION. THIS TYPICALLY IS AT THE END OF THE SEASON. WE WILL PROVIDE THE
MENTOR AN EMAIL OF PROCEDURES AND EXPECTATIONS ONCE ASSIGNED. WE NEED ALL OUR EXPERIENCED OFFICIALS TO PARTICIPATE. THIS WILL SHARE THE LOAD AND ALLOW
US TO COVER AND WORK MORE GAMES WITH THE NEWBIE'S
If you wish to be a mentor/evaluator... These are the things we are looking for.
If any of the officials are new... to be on ice with them in plain clothes (i.e.) sweats or something similar. No officials sweater.... you CAN have your
whistle in case you do need to make a call. Work basic positioning and procedures, pre and post game chat, helpful tips and constructive criticism.
S
end back a evaluation to us on how they work their game(s).For MM make sure the on ice coaches stay OUT of the way and let the officials do their job.
EVALUATORS
If the officials already have been working games for us then we are looking for an evaluation of their performance. You can do this off ice. Send back a evaluation on how they work their games. Have a post pre and post game chat again providing constructive criticism. Work on the basics using the USA HOCKEY BASIC MANUAL for procedures and positioning. Following these guidelines ensures that all new and inexperienced officials can expect that ANY partner they have will be working it the same way. There is no guessing on what is to be done or how to do it.
Email us for the two evaluation forms - you can use them or create a report based on their content. The detail form is not required to be complete but an
aid of things to look for with an official.
(Regular season) MM & Mites will be filled with newer officials where possible and mentors assigned.
Those officials who are NEW or have less than a couple of games already worked may apply for these. If they
do not fill we will fill with our regular working officials. Anyone wishing to MENTOR may also apply.
NOTICE: Thanks to the continued support of the Kensington Valley Hockey Association/Lakeland Hockey Association mentoring programs who pay the fees to continue Official's Education.
We are beginning to establish a
library of video's and DVD's on officiating. All Officials, Teams, Coaches or Parents are welcome to request and check out these materials
for viewing. We do request that you do not hold these materials more than a couple days so that all who are interested have an
opportunity. To make a request please send us an email to arrange availability and time to pick up and drop off at any of
the arena's.
